Susan D.  Chapnick

Susan D. Chapnick, M.S. - President & Principal Scientist

Ms. Chapnick is President and a Principal Scientist of New Environmental Horizons, Inc. (NEH). She has over 25 years of experience in the environmental arena including quality assurance/quality control, regulatory compliance, data usability evaluation, and analytical chemistry (with specialties in trace metals and inorganic analytical techniques). She applies her technical expertise to plan and evaluate the quality of environmental data for use in site assessments under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), USEPA Remedial Investigations/Feasibility Studies (RI/FS), Brownfields projects, human health and ecological risk assessments, and litigation support. Ms. Chapnick is currently acting as the Quality Assurance Officer (QAO) at several USEPA Superfund sites where she provides technical and regulatory assistance and development of project-specific Work Plans and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPP). Ms. Chapnick serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Licensed Site Professionals Association (LSPA) and is an appointed member of the Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup Advisory Boardfor MassDEP where she assists in developing technical policy and guidance in support of MCP investigations. Ms. Chapnick previously held the positions of Director of Technical Operations for Gradient Corporation and Director of Inorganic Laboratories for a former analytical laboratory. She has 40 publications and presentations.

 

Nancy C.  Rothman

Nancy C. Rothman, Ph.D., CEO & Principal Scientist

Dr. Rothman is CEO and a Principal Scientist of New Environmental Horizons, Inc. (NEH) and a recognized expert in organic environmental chemistry. Dr. Rothman has over 25 years of experience in the development of methods, analysis, and data evaluation for semivolatile organic compounds (SVOC), including dioxins/furans and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and volatile organic compounds (VOC). She applies her depth of experience to evaluate usability of current and historical data and in the development and review of project-specific Work Plans and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPP) for environmental investigations in support of NOAA Natural Resource Damage Assessments, USEPA Superfund, US Army Corps of Engineers, and state-led programs. Dr. Rothman has successfully provided expert testimony and litigation support for complex environmental data issues involving analyses of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), VOCs, and PCBs. Dr. Rothman has previously held corporate positions for Corning Laboratory Services, Inc. as Chief Organic Scientist and Director of Productivity and Process Redesign and was the Division Director for two environmental analytical laboratories. Dr. Rothman is an appointed member of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Science Advisory Board (NJDEP SAB). She has over 30 publications and presentations in the fields of analytical chemistry, data usability assessment, and method development.
